Thank
you for your interest in joining the West I-10 Fire
Department. The West I-10 Fire Department is a non-profit
organization that provides fire protection and (first
responder) emergency medical care to Harris County ESD #48 and
Fort Bend County ESD #1.
We are a medium sized Volunteer Department with 5
stations servicing approximately 86 square miles.
This
Web page has been designed to assist you with the application
process.
Volunteer Firefighters:
-
Are genuinely interested in people and get along with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
-
Learn to work as part of a close-knit team and learn to work under pressure without letting the rest of the team down.
-
Learn to deal with members of the public when they are distressed, confused or being disruptive.
-
Represent the Fire Department even when they are not on a call.
-
Learn the importance of maintaining their physical fitness.
-
Are willing to volunteer some of their evenings, late nights, weekends and public holidays and are prepared to serve at a moment’s notice.
-
Are willing to work outside for several hours in all types of weather.
-
Are willing to commit the time needed to sustain a required meeting and run percentage.
Joining the Volunteer Fire service will expose you to an outstanding group of men and women. Strong camaraderie exists within the fire service. This camaraderie is magnified within the stations. Life long friendships have (and will continue) to evolve within our department and in the fire service. These friendships are borne out of the trust and respect developed within the fire service. Firefighters support each other especially in times of need. There is no experience necessary to become a member, and the training is free. Volunteer Firefighters are unpaid professionals who have the same duties and responsibilities as career Firefighters. Firefighting is spiritually rewarding and gives you a sense of pride and self worth.
Volunteer Firefighting is difficult and challenging. Firefighters are highly trained motivated, compassionate people who are skilled in mitigating a hectic and often tragic scene. Firefighters are ever ready, always willing to help their fellow man. Volunteering also allows you to give something back to your community. Today, there are so many demands on your time. Firefighting requires specialized training in addition to the presence of a warm body. If you have a sense of civic pride, if you want to see immediate results of a job well done, if you have the heart and spirit to make your community a better place, consider volunteering. You may find meaning previously lacking in your work and your life, and you may also find a career.
